We believe everyone deserves to feel present in their lives.

Our Story

Hustle & Play started as a tool to help with productivity, grew into a spiritual practice, a kickstarter, a business, and now a community.

Our Values

We believe our offerings, creations, & intentions are our contribution to building a more playful world.

We believe that with more present & playful people in the world, there is more liberation, pleasure, creativity & innovation. This will enable both solving the greatest problems and living joyfully while doing it.

We believe this doesn’t happen naturally - structure & commitment are necessary. We are dedicated to helping make this part FUN, engaging, & motivating through our diverse offerings.

We believe that honoring our need for play is no different than our need for food, water, shelter.

We believe we need to align our personal development & time management with nature. When we look at our lives as a garden to nurture vs. a flawed human to judge, we are more likely to make goals & choices that work with our momentum, unlearn perfectionism, stay curious, and experiment.

We believe that incorporating the H&P framework into our lives is a revolutionary act. Because virtually all western systems of time management, scheduling, & personal development are designed to disconnect us from ourselves in service of “achieving more,” becoming present & playful in our lives quiets the noise that Capitalism creates and disrupts the white supremacist outcomes it feeds.

We believe the H&P framework as a whole is a profound tool for healing. Choosing to reflect with repetition, visualize with intention, and practice gratitude with consistency changes the way we do life for the better, forever.

We believe that using H&P is most effective in community. This is how we reject the harmful individualism that made us so unwell in the first place. We are continuously growing and iterating our offering to support community as we co-create and hold space with curiosity, playfulness & experimentation.

We believe that those who use H&P are change-makers. We are creating new scripts for everyday life, modeling new behaviors & choices for current & future generations, and healing ancestral wounds of labor, oppression, and more.

We are 100% committed to making sure our personal practice of H&P remains prioritized as we evolve and deliver services.

Lastly, we believe there is inequity in the wellness world and we want everyone to access H&P. We are committed to price our offerings at sliding scale as much as possible.

meet the founder

Hi, I’m Morgan Shidler.

I believe what adrienne maree brown articulated in Pleasure Activism: that we must learn to make “justice and liberation the most pleasurable experiences we can have on this planet.”

I believe this happens through slow, consistent actions rooted in joy, play, and values-based actions every single day. It looks, sounds, and feels differently for all of us. I have learned this over the last decade when my own burnout almost took me out; and now feel rested, playful and committed to working on projects making the world better in some way.

I spent the first part of my adulthood committed to social change within the systems of After School programs in public education in San Francisco and Oakland. I watched young people thrive as they found their talents in arts and sports and science, I facilitated educators connecting to their students in creative ways, and I felt these systems fail us again and again. Between internal struggles that closed schools and left families & staff abandoned, gun & domestic violence, unsustainable workloads leaving staff unwell, and seemingly endless labor strikes taxing everyone on all sides. I was all-in with my commitment to it all (at the detriment to my health & relationships) until I lost my job in the middle of a school year and found myself lost, humiliated & terrified.

I used H&P to get me through that moment which led me back to myself - someone who loves to be outside, make art, and has an insatiable desire to innovate and experiment in service of a better world. I created H&P to make sure I never found myself victim to a system I was trying to dismantle again and to help others find their way back to themselves too. I continue to grow it because I am unbelievably inspired by the infinite ways our community has made it their own.

The H&P framework keeps our values front and center and serves as a counter-system to the one that has made so many of attached to the phrase “I don’t have enough time.”

Using this framework for myself has led me to create a thriving photography business, a women’s organization, and bring Hustle & Play to the world for others to use.

I’ve combined the insight from using Hustle & Play in my own life with my experience in facilitation and coaching to help to build our community of peer learning groups, retreats, and workshops. I’ve worked with organizations to help them guide their teams to tap into their genius while staying present.

I’ve done this while I traveled the world, got lots of rest, made art, built beautiful relationships, and nurtured my inner child who loves to play sports. I am committed to my sustainable wellness as I continue to grow my professional footprint.

I really believe we can make lasting, collective impact by tending to our wellness with intention, and I’m here to co-create that together.

Where we’re going…

We are committed to building an infrastructure of community & connection that enables the folks who use H&P to thrive. Oftentimes we are the only ones we know choosing to play and reflect and slow down. Having ways to learn from and connect to each other makes the process of using our books much more fun and rewarding. We are constantly iterating the ways to meet this need, and is the primary focus for our growth as a business.

Learning groups, workshops & 1-on-1 coaching are evolving all the time and will continue to be the most powerful ways to experience how H&P is impacting our lives.

We will always arrive to spaces rested and well, because we are committed to our personal practice of H&P first and foremost. This alone can have profound affects on the groups we work with, as we are able to hold space and presence for folks in ways they’ve often never seen.

We’ve never had (and still don’t have) an end goal for where we’re going. As we continuously learn how to live with play at the center of our lives & business, the future we’re working for continues to be co-created with those we work with. This has been a beautiful process so far, and we look forward to building our community with intention always working towards a more playful world.
